I’ve been writing letters for sometime now. I put out a call for anyone wanting snail mail on Facebook and write those who reply.
My letters are silly; I’ve always been insecure about letter writing, so this is a way for me to stretch myself. After all, what do you say to someone you mostly encounter online? I also decorate my envelopes because art is fun and pretty and it makes use of muscles that haven’t been used in a long time.
I think I’m getting better, though. My art is fancier and my words are more profound. They still sound like they were written by a seven year old, but hey, baby steps.
Sometimes, people write back. Sometimes, they don’t. Sometimes, they text their thanks or post a picture of the letter. However they respond, or even if they don’t, I’m happy that they like the idea of getting mail, and that they let me write them.
