A little bit of Chile at the Oakroom
Oakroom celebrated its Chilean Wine festival this month in cooperation with Veramonte, one of Chile’s finest wine brands, which was paired with Oakroom specialties.
The Crab Salad, with mesclun leaves, mango pearls, toasted rice flakes and miso dressing goes well with the Veramonte Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2009, the brands’s number one seller in the US. Crisp and fragrant, it is a good accompaniment to the light crab meat and semi-bitter vegetables. The toasted rice flakes (pinipig) give texture while the mango pearls add sweetness, the miso dressing drawing everything together.
Okaroom’s popular Salmon Chowder, a thick, heartwarming soup with just the right amount of salmon saltiness was paired with oak aged Veramonte Reserva Chardonnay 2009.
The Grilled Berkshire porkchop with foie gras, crushed potato and Port glaze was paired with the Veramonte Primus 2006. I’m not a pork fan so I skipped that, though my companions said it was awesome.
Dessert was Dulce de leche cheesecake, which was not too sweet and had a slightly lemony aftertaste. We had this with Vittoria Coffee, which is an Italian blend from Australia.
Oakroom’s Chilean wine festival may have ended, but the food can still be enjoyed at the restaurant (I’m certainly going back for the chowder), and the wines can be purchased at Wine Depot.
I had pictures, I promise, except my computer crashed with them in it.
